ANNUAL TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS

TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS
Another successful event in 2007! We were blessed with great weather and a full field of 136 players.

The 2007 Jeff Berberich Memorial Golf Invitational kicked off Friday afternoon with the Montego Bay / Jeff Berberich Shootout.

This year 22 players signed up for a chance to be the shoot out champ. The weather was warm and sunny, the players started on the Good #1 Course and the play was intense. The winner in the “A” division was Pete Berberich and the runner up was David Lynn [Photo] The winner in the “B’ division was David Trepanier and runner up was Brian Roberts.

After the shootout, many of the golfers, friends and family gathered at the Montego Bay Restaurant for the annual pairing’s party. Much discussion, catching up on events in our lives and conversations regarding the tournament took place. The food was outstanding and our thanks to Roy Centani, our shootout sponsor.

Saturday morning dawned with much warmth and sunshine and an excited field of 136 golfers were anxious to get going! The day’s round was highlighted with one team shooting an excellent round of 54 for the lead in the tournament.

Saturday evening we all gathered for our annual putting contest, which included pizza from Hungry Howies, beer from Budweiser, and soft drink from Coca Cola.
The putting champion was Mike Reese after a put off on Sunday evening. The putting event was once again hosted by Ron Bigus, his wife Sue, and brother George. They also contributed the $250.00 cash prize.

Thanks to Ron, Susan, and George along with Andy Marshall from Hungry Howies, Sid Taylor from Budweiser, and David Lizarralde from Coca Cola.

Sunday morning we attended mass in honor of Jeff at St. Bernadette’s Church.

The day was starting out beautiful and only got better as we began the final round of golf at noon. Again, 136 players anxiously awaited the start and all had hopes of being crowned the champion and the bragging rights that go with it.

The eventful champions wound up being the team of Tom Crusey, Chirs Crusey, Mike Smolen, and Jerry Hofer.

After golf, we all gathered for the steak cook out and awarding the prizes and the grand raffle. The food prepared by Paul Sylvester and his staff was outstanding and everyone seemed to enjoy the dinner and music provided by David Kerr!

After dinner, the champions received their trophies and champion caps.

Once again, no one got a hole in one, so the new Toyota and the E-Z Go Golf Cart went unclaimed.

After the awards ceremony, the staff at Guardian Ad Litem presented a hand made quilt made by many of the children in the program to Chuck and Judy Berberich.

At the conclusion of the evening, we announced the recipient of the “Jeff Award.” This year’s award was presented to Karen and Earl Durden who have been contributors to our tournament for the past several years!

Finally, we had the great pleasure of presenting to the Guardian Ad Litem / Advocates for Children a check in the amount of $51,000! Our thanks to all the participants, contributors, sponsors, volunteers, and all those who helped make this another successful event!
